Bike Day started as a fun day to connect with the community and educate the public on the importance of adaptive recreational equipment. Through amazing community connections, generous donors, and a wonderful volunteer base this event continues to help many in our community.
Recreational participation is important for everyone and adapted recreation equipment can be both costly and difficult to obtain. The independence and freedom of participating safely in recreational activities are proven to increase confidence, increase participation in other daily activities, as well as helping to maintain mobility or joints. But most importantly, it allows allows the user to maintain dignity while enjoying their sense of adventure.
Each year we strive to connect those in the community to those in need. We continue to grow each year and so do our goals! We want to begin receiving donations to assist in payment of the costly adaptive bike evaluations and adapted recreational equipment to positively impact more people in our community.
Volunteers are also welcome for Bike Day! We love our volunteers who help with behind-the-scenes planning, day-of coordination, and getting the word out for these amazing events!
Mobility Matters Foundation serves children and families on our annual Bike Day by providing free complex occupational therapy evaluations on adaptive bikes for kids of all abilities. We collaborate with ATP supply companies to give children ages 2 and up the opportunity to trial bikes and determine sizing. The MMF team then writes a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) for the adaptive bikes. We also potentially request grants to help cover a portion or the whole cost to help families obtain the recreational equipment. Please utilize this picture as a resource to better understand our role at Bike Day!
Disclaimer: We are not liable for covering the full cost of the adaptive bikes. We promise to do our best in providing the evaluation, writing the LMN, and requesting the grant for the bike, however we are not responsible for the delivery of the bike or how much funding is provided.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals by promoting accessibility and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities . Your generous donation will fund our mission.
