Our mission Focuses on Providing Pro-bono Evaluations for Patients Who Have NC Medicaid.

However, the Mobility Matters Foundation strives to provide services to rural communities and underserved populations in North Carolina.

We are aware that there are individuals who continue to face constraints when accessing a traditional seating clinic (due to a lack of transportation, no telehealth benefits, geographic barriers, insurance constraints, or living in another state). We are mindful that such cases still require a skilled therapist to perform a seating and mobility evaluation. For these situations, Mobility Matters Foundation offers our services for a collected fee of $100 at the time of your appointment to cover therapist and operational fees.

Prior to scheduling, the Mobility Matters Foundation board must grant approval for the evaluation to ensure compliance with OT state licensure guidelines. The fee may be paid by any community member or the patient. Circumstantial financial assistance may be available.

Population Served

Accessibility

According to WHO:

  • Inaccessible health facilities are up to 6 times more challenging for persons with disabilities.
  • Persons with disabilities find inaccessible and unaffordable transportation 15 times more difficult than for those without disabilities.
  • Health inequities arise from unfair conditions faced by persons with disabilities, including stigma, discrimination, poverty, exclusion from education and employment, and barriers faced in the health system itself.

Who Is Affected?

According to the CDC:

  • Disability affects approximately 61 million individuals in the U.S. and more than one billion people worldwide.
  • Nearly 1 in 4 (26%) people in the United States have some type of disability.
  • 11.1% have a mobility disability, causing serious difficulties walking or climbing stairs.
  • 3.0 percent of U.S. adults have a self-care disability with difficulty dressing or bathing.

Healthcare

According to the CDC

1 in 4 adults with disabilities 18-44 years do not have a usual healthcare provider.

1 in 5 adults with disabilities 18-44 years have an unmet health care need because of cost in the past year.

1 in 4 adults with disabilities 45-64 years did not have a routine check-up in the past year.

Persons with disabilities have twice the risk of developing conditions such as depression, asthma, diabetes, stroke, obesity, or poor oral health.
